  • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course covering topics on power generation and transmission, the layout of common electrical power generation plants, the main components and characteristics of thermal power plants, the power transmission process from generation to distribution, expressions for resistance, inductance and capacitance of high-voltage power transmission lines and determine the equivalent circuit of a three-phase transmission line.

    • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course taught to third year students. final year students. This course focuses on the construction, operation and testing of three-phase electrical machines. The physical concepts and basic laws governing electrical machines operation, such as Faraday’s Law, Ampere-Biot-Savart’s Law and Lenz’ Law, are introduced and the principles underlying the performance of three-phase electrical machines are subsequently explained.

    • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course taught to second year students. This course focuses on fundamentals of common electrical machines. They are analyzed through industrial applications. Three-phase electrical circuits are analyzed as well as the operation of single-phase and three-phase electrical transformers. The steady state operation of DC machines and stepper motors is analyzed and the performance characteristics of single and three-phase induction motors are discussed. Practical laboratories are utilized to reinforce the concepts.

This course equips students with the ability to analyse and solve problems commonly encountered in electrical power systems. The course includes a revision of complex power calculations, per-unit system of analysis, and electrical network calculations. Topics include system modelling, load flow analysis, symmetrical components theory, fault analysis, and stability problems.

    • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course taught to final year students. This course examines power system protection fundamentals, basic design requirements, and principles of operation for over-current, overvoltage, and under-voltage protection schemes for various power system components. Three-phase asymmetrical faults are analyzed under various conditions and are used as a basis to select circuit breaker types and ratings. Various protective devices, such as over current and earth leakage, differential, distance, over voltage, and under voltage relays, are applied as appropriate. Unit protection, back up protection, and protection coordination are introduced.

Common passive components are presented and DC circuits are analysed. AC signals are generated and measured with a focus on signal amplitude and phase. The

  • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course taught to final year students. This course requires the formation of a team to propose, plan and design an engineering project. The student team is totally responsible for the completion of the project milestones and course objectives while working under the mentorship of a faculty or industry engineer. The team is evaluated on its ability to coordinate efforts to propose the project design criteria, components, resources, implementation schedule, and estimated cost.

This course consists of the implementation, evaluation, and analysis of an engineering design project carried forward from the previous semester.   • Course Description: This is an undergraduate course. It covers the design thinking methodology to identify and address engineering problems. It includes solid modeling, rapid prototyping, understanding end users, their unarticulated needs, and creating alternative solutions. It focuses on creativity, identify potential solutions, and innovation of new products and work processes. Students applied design methodologies and innovation tools on an engineering technology problem, built and tested it to gain the spirt and the initiative of the design thinking course. Students are able to communicate effectively and to work well on teams. Problems and solutions are examined from societal, cultural, and ethical perspectives.
